Thunder Bay — Atikokan: Italians may hold the key in a close 2-way vote

The provincial electoral district of Thunder Bay – Atikokan (TBA) is situated just west of Thunder Bay – Superior North along the north shore of Lake Superior. Located about 1,600km northwest of the capital, by car it would take about 18 hours (nonstop) to reach Ottawa.

The district covers an area of 25,600 square km (about the same size as Sicily). It encompasses the town of Atikokan and the south side of the City of Thunder Bay. The oddly shaped riding dips south to the Canada/US boundary. (more…)

Italian Canadians in Sudbury key to electoral victory


TORONTO – The lead up to Ontario’s 2022 General Election will be a hectic time for candidates. Specifically, the need to build support for their political party while addressing the concerns of voters in their constituency. With the official start of the campaign less than six weeks away, the Corriere begins our electoral district profile series.

The focus will be on constituencies where Italian Canadians make up a significant portion of the district population and number more than 8,000. (more…)

Italian Canadian Voters Key to Shaping Ontario’s Future


Less than three months away, Ontarians will head to the polls to elect their next provincial government. Voting day, June 2, is rapidly approaching and the campaign is well underway. This campaign will look similar to those of the past, especially as Covid restrictions ease throughout the province and life begins to resemble something familiar.

However, like previous elections, Ontario voters also face familiar concerns. Some of the defining issues include the state of the economy, housing affordability, the fear of privatization, cuts to health care and the protection of Ontario’s publicly funded education system.

Niagara Centre: A key battleground for political parties

The electoral district of Niagara Centre (formerly known as Welland), is located in the Niagara Region. It is situated along the northeastern shore of Lake Erie and includes the cities of Port Colborne, Thorold, Welland and part of the City of St. Catharines.

Regionally, it is an area rich in history, culture and is comprised of several different ethnic groups. Italians, at 13% of the population, represent one of the largest ethnic groups in Niagara Centre.
