Covid vaccine, it’s the children’s turn

TORONTO – There are over 36 thousand appointments booked so far for the administration of the Covid-18 vaccine to children aged between 5 and 11 years. Today clinics, hospitals and pharmacies began to administer the first dose to children whose age falls within this range. So far in Toronto, 36,373 appointments have been booked out of the more than 49,086 total places available for children until December 11th.  (more…)

LTC, vaccine staff obligation postponed to December 13. Poll, 72% of Canadians don’t want to end up in an LTC

TORONTO – The deadline for Ontario’s long-term care homes was set for tomorrow to be fully immunized against Covid-19 but the government has decided to postpone it until December 13. This was announced by the spokesperson of the Minister of Long Term Care Rod Phillips Vanessa De Matteis: by today, however, the staff of these houses must receive at least the first dose of the vaccine.  (more…)

Vaccine chaos, unimmunized teachers and undecided parents

TORONTO – Up to 50,000 education workers in Ontario could be laid off if Covid-19 vaccines were mandatory for this sector that already faces staffing issues. This was said by the Minister of Education Stephen Lecce. “I think we need to be realistic and ensure that every member of staff who comes into our school undergoes a double test, a negative antigen test, to ensure that they are safe, to make sure that there are staff in our schools and that children can continue to go to school every day,” Lecce said. TORONTO – There are trips, school assemblies, music education and extracurricular activities in the return-to-school plan released yesterday by the Ministry of Education. Twenty-nine pages that contain the plan for the full-time return of both elementary and high school students even if the option of distance learning always remains valid. From September, students “will attend face-to-face classes every day for the entire school day (five hours of instruction) in elementary and secondary schools throughout the province. 5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine are arriving in Canada  this week

TORONTO – After the brief stalemate of recent months, vaccines now continue to flow continuously. This week Canada will receive about 5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine. Five million that will bring the total number of doses received to 68 million, enough to administer two doses to all 33.2 million Canadians aged 12 years and over. John Tory announced this Wednesday (June 23) the launch of Toronto Youth Vaccine Engagement Strategy, a partnership between the City of Toronto and the Toronto Youth Cabinet (TYC). In a press release, the Mayor of Toronto said that since Ontario extended eligibility to residents over 12 years of age, “we’ve seen an impressive response to youth vaccination”.

The vaccine, although still considered safe by both Health Canada and the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (Naci) has been suspended as a precaution in some provinces of our country. In Ontario, as explained this week by Chief Medical Officer David Williams, the provisional stop was decided for two reasons: on the one hand the necessary caution pending new data on adverse reactions, on the other hand the lack of new supplies due to the announced delays in deliveries. NACI suspends AstraZeneca vaccine for people under 55

Toronto, March 30: Yesterday, Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization, in short, NACI has suspended the vaccination of AstraZeneca because of concerns over safety and advised the provinces, which most of the provinces agreed to follow. The reason for this is the issue of blood clots in the bodies of women in European countries. Although, 300,000 doses of the vaccine have already been administered in Canada and no blood clots have been reported anywhere, not even in the case of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines with mRNA properties. Ontario expanding vaccine booking

TORONTO – Ontario is racing against time on the vaccination front. The immunization campaign against Covid-19 is now being accelerated again with the opening of reservations to vaccinate even for people who are at least 75 years old: from March 15th the provincial system accepted reservations only for those who were at least 80. In order to get vaccinated, you must connect to the internet portal activated by the provincial government (https://covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine)or by telephone, by calling the toll-free number 1-888-999-6488, where a telephone operator will collect the information necessary to make the reservation.
