For the second day in a row, Ontario reports more than 4,400 new coronavirus infections. In the last 24-hours, provincial health officials recorded 4,401 new cases and 619 patients in the ICU due to Covid-related critical illness.
This is a record-high number for Covid-19 patients in the ICU since the start of the pandemic, prompting most Ontario hospitals to suspend elective surgeries as of today.
Globally, there have been over 135 million confirmed cases of Covid-19 according to Johns Hopkins University data. Since the start of the pandemic, over 110 million people have recovered and more than 2.9 million fatalities to Covid-19.
