Another record setting day in India. The healthcare system is under extreme pressure as the country recorded over 330,000 new infections in the last 24-hours and more than 2,200 additional Covid-related deaths, numbers not seen since the onset of the pandemic.
The situation has prompted renewed discussion among government officials in Canada to tighten international travel restrictions from “hot-spot” countries to reduce the spread of highly contagious variants.
Globally, over 144 million cases have confirmed positive for Covid-19 according to Johns Hopkins University data. Since the start of the pandemic, over 123 million people have recovered. Fatalities attributable to Covid-19 now surpass 3 million worldwide.
