Indigenous Delegation visit Pope Francis for an apology

A group of delegates representing First Nations, Inuit and Métis head to Rome this weekend for an audience with the Pope. The delegation consists of about 30 Indigenous people including elders, residential school survivors and youth.

The delegation’s theme is centered around how Indigenous Peoples and the Catholic Church can move forward together toward healing and reconciliation. It is precisely the history of residential schools in Canada that has ignited the national conversation.

Italian Canadian Voters Key to Shaping Ontario’s Future

Less than three months away, Ontarians will head to the polls to elect their next provincial government. Voting day, June 2, is rapidly approaching and the campaign is well underway. This campaign will look similar to those of the past, especially as Covid restrictions ease throughout the province and life begins to resemble something familiar.

However, like previous elections, Ontario voters also face familiar concerns. Some of the defining issues include the state of the economy, housing affordability, the fear of privatization, cuts to health care and the protection of Ontario’s publicly funded education system.

Ontario, hospitalizations fall but the positivity is growing

TORONTO – 551 Covid-inpatients in hospital, of which 181 (-1) in intensive care: it is the lowest number of hospitalizations in Ontario since the end of December. There were also few deaths today: 4, bringing the total from the beginning of the pandemic to 12,336. However, the positivity rate goes up, from 12% on Sunday to 13.4% today, based on the 1,217 cases of Covid-19 identified in the last 24 hours through 8,644 tests (limited, we remind you, to the “at risk” categories only ).

Ontario: from tomorrow masks will be optional in most city facilities

TORONTO – From tomorrow goodbye to masks in Ontario. At least in most facilities including schools and kindergartens. The breakthrough was announced last week by Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario Kieran Moore due to the general improvement in the epidemiological situation. To abandon this personal protective equipment in the public transport sector, long-term care, retirement homes and other health facilities, reception centers, prisons and homes for people with developmental disabilities, instead we will have to wait a little longer, to be precise until April 27th.

In a bid to appeal to supporters in the west, Brown made the announcement on March 19, the same day he released his campaign platform for Western Canada. In a statement, Brown labelled the new national Campaign Co-Chair as “Western Canada’s strongest champion”.

Covid-19, hospitalizations still down but the deaths don’t stop

TORONTO – Covid-19: the number of hospitalized in Ontario still drops, but the number of victims remains high: today another 19 bringing the total from the beginning of the pandemic to 12,307. Even today, however, it is not known which deaths, of those in recent days, were caused by the virus and which by other diseases with the virus in coexistence: the provincial health authorities did not specify this, contrary to what they had announced last week.

Canada launches new temporary residence pathway to welcome those fleeing the war in Ukraine

The CUAET is a special, accelerated temporary residence pathway for Ukrainians seeking safe haven in Canada while the war in their home country continues.
