[GTranslate]TORONTO – March 9, 2021: Canada yesterday stood at 892,601 positives for Covid-19, an increase of 3,649 more cases than in the previous 24 hours. The number of victims – nationwide – yesterday reached 22,295 total deaths, 36 more than on Monday. In Canada yesterday the number of recovered people from the coronavirus stood at 839,930. Ontario yesterday reached 311,112 overall positives, an increase of 1,185 new cases compared to Monday. The total number of victims in Ontario has meanwhile risen to 7,083, with 6 more deaths than the previous day. The number of recovered people in the province rose to 292,806, or 972 more than the previous 24 hours. There are 908 cases so far registered in Ontario of the English variant of Covid, 39 of the South African variant and 17 of the Brazilian variant.
Yesterday there were 689 people still in the hospital, 290 of them in intensive care and 184 connected to ventilators for assisted breathing. There are 85 retirement and long-term homes that continue to record cases of Covid-19. Yesterday there were 14,980 elderly patients infected in total since the beginning of the emergency and 3,748 total deaths so far recorded among guests of the same facilities. Until yesterday, 6,699 health workers were infected in the same nursing homes and 11 died.
The city of Toronto has recorded, since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 100,109 positives yesterday, with an increase of 385 cases compared to Monday. Meanwhile, there were 2,695 total deaths in the city, with 3 new victims recorded compared to the previous 24 hours.
The York Region reached 29,618 total infections yesterday, with 104 more positives than on Monday and 531 victims since the start of the pandemic, with no new deaths in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, 28,294 people were recovered, while 136 people were still in the hospital, 21 of them in intensive care.
In the city of Vaughan, the total number of people who tested positive for Covid-19 was 12,485 yesterday, or 42% of the entire York Region, with 40 more new infections than in the previous 24 hours. 219 deaths, with no new casualties, recorded yesterday, while 11,925 people were cured. 54 were hospitalized, 6 of them in intensive care.
At Woodbridge yesterday there were 5,315 cases of positivity, 3,300 in Maple, 3,932 in Richmond Hill and 7,705 in Markham.
In the Peel Region yesterday there were 64,173 coronavirus positives, 270 more than the last survey and 626 total victims, with one more death than on Monday. There were 61,980 healings recorded in total, while 1,779 people were hospitalized.
In Mississauga, the total number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus was 22,530 yesterday, 107 more than last Monday. Also in Mississauga were yesterday 377 victims so far, with a new death recorded in the last 24 hours, while there were 21,615 people recovered from Covid-19 and 870 people so far hospitalized due to the coronavirus.
In Brampton, the total number of people positive for Covid-19 was yesterday 38,846, with 150 new cases of contagion more than on Monday and equal to 60.5% of the entire Peel Region. 232 confirmed deaths, with one more victim, while 37,674 were found to be healed yesterday.
In Caledon, there were 2,376 registered infections yesterday, 7 more than on Monday, while 2,298 had recovered and 13 victims overall.
In Hamilton the total number of positives yesterday was 10,929, with 98 new cases of contagion more than in the last testing cycle, while the number of victims so far ascertained was 287, with 2 new deaths. Finally, there were 10,020 total recoveries.
In Ottawa, 15,207 people were infected yesterday, an increase of 40 positives compared to the last survey, while 444 people died, with one more new death recorded in the last 24 hours. The healed in the capital yesterday were a total of 14,251.
In Quebec yesterday there were 650 new registered cases, for a total of 293,860 infected, along with 12 additional deaths per 10,493 total victims.
