In Ontario 4,212 new infected and 32 more deaths

TORONTO – April 21, 2021: Canada stood yesterday at 1,144,645 positives for Covid-19, an increase of 5,602 more cases than in the previous 24 hours. The number of victims – nationwide – yesterday reached 23,752 total deaths, 45 more than on Tuesday. In Canada yesterday the number of recovered people from the coronavirus stood at 1,033,136. Ontario yesterday reached 429,123 overall positives, an increase of 4,212 new cases compared to Tuesday. The total number of victims in Ontario has meanwhile risen to 7,789, with 32 more deaths than the previous day. The number of recovered people in the province rose to 378,417 or 4,204 more than the previous 24 hours. There are 41,395 cases so far registered in Ontario of the English variant of Covid, 108 of the South African variant and 212 of the Brazilian variant.

Yesterday there were 2,335 people still in hospital, 790 of them in intensive care – a new record high – and 566 connected to ventilators for assisted breathing. There are 34 retirement and long-term homes that continue to record cases of Covid-19. Yesterday there were 15,113 elderly patients infected in total since the beginning of the emergency and 3,755 total deaths so far recorded among guests of the same facilities. Until yesterday, 6,904 health workers were infected in the same nursing homes and 11 died.

The city of Toronto has recorded, since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 136,833 positives yesterday, with an increase of 1,302 cases compared to Tuesday. Meanwhile, there were 2,970 total deaths in the city, with 27 new victims recorded compared to the previous 24 hours. 119,854 were found to be healed yesterday.

The York Region reached 42,505 total infections yesterday, with 393 more positives than on Tuesday and 584 victims since the start of the pandemic, with one more death since the latest bulletin. Yesterday, 37,246 people were recovered, while 78 people were still in hospital, 12 of them in intensive care.

In the city of Vaughan, the total number of people tested positive for Covid-19 was 17,727 yesterday, or 42% of the entire York Region, with 143 more new infections than in the previous 24 hours. 232 deaths, with one more new death recorded yesterday, while 15,527 people were cured. 34 were hospitalized, 4 of them in intensive care.

At Woodbridge yesterday there were 7,583 total cases of positivity since the Covid-19 pandemic started, 4,903 in Maple, 6,034 in Richmond Hill and 10,291 in Markham.

In the Peel Region yesterday there were 86,255 coronavirus positives, 531 more than the last survey and 671 total victims, with 3 more deaths than on the last bulletin. There were 80,485 healings recorded in total, while 2,372 people were hospitalized.

In Mississauga, the total number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus was 30,665 yesterday, 240 more than last Tuesday. Also in Mississauga were yesterday 395 victims so far, with oneĀ  more death recorded in the last 24 hours, while there were 28,437 people recovered from Covid-19 and 1,122 people so far hospitalized due to the coronavirus.

In Brampton the total number of people positive for Covid-19 was yesterday 51,784 with 280 new cases of contagion more than on Tuesday. 261 confirmed deaths, with 2 more victims in the previous 24 hours, while 48,583 were found to be healed yesterday.

In Caledon, there were 3,453 registered infections yesterday, 22 more than on Tuesday, while 3,207 had recovered and 14 victims overall, with no more deaths.

In Hamilton the total number of positives yesterday was 15,858, with 301 new cases of contagion more than in the last testing cycle, while the number of victims so far ascertained was 349, with one more new death recorded in the last 24 hours.

In Ottawa, 22,405 people were infected yesterday, an increase of 181 positives compared to the last survey, while 484 people died, with one more new death recorded since the last bulletin. The healed in the capital yesterday were a total of 18,682.

In Quebec yesterday there were 1,217 new registered cases, for a total of 340,397 infected, along with 6 additional deaths per 10,838 total victims.
