One Superhero, Two Legends

February 17, 2025 February 17, 2025 Massimo Volpe

TORONTO – Marvel enlisted two of Italy’s most famous football captains, Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero, to help herald the release of Captain America: Brave New World in Italy. Starring as the World War II Superhero is Anthony Mackie. The Louisiana-born actor made his debut in the Eminem Biopic 8 Mile (2002), and eventually earned global recognition playing Falcon in Captain America: Winter Soldier (2014). For Italians [and the rest of the world] the crossover promotion makes perfect sense since football icons enjoy as much fame globally as celebrities do in Hollywood.

Toronto under 50 centimeters of snow, “up to three weeks to remove it”

February 17, 2025 February 18, 2025 Marzio Pelù

TORONTO – Second snowstorm in a few days in Toronto: after last Thursday’s one (25 centimeters of snow), another one arrived between Saturday and Sunday and literally “blanketed” Toronto under a soft and white cover. About thirty centimeters of snow, which added to the 25 that had already fallen a few days earlier.  Continue reading→

Sitting on the edge of a governance precipice

February 17, 2025 February 17, 2025 Hon. Joe Volpe

TORONTO – Since my first election to Parliament Hill in Ottawa, it has received public investments for repair, refurbishing and restoration that are mind-boggling. From1988-1995, the project received $100 million (a lot of money at the time!), then most recently in 2018, a contract worth $5 billion was allocated to complete the project. It being a government contract, and Ottawa being the most unpredictable National capital, weather wise, in the world, that number is likely to be revised upward.

Davvero sono soltanto tariffe?

February 14, 2025 February 14, 2025 Ricky Castellvi

February 14, 2025 February 14, 2025 Ricky Castellvi

Is it really just tariffs?

February 14, 2025 February 14, 2025 Ricky Castellvi

TORONTO – On February 1st, Canada braced for the imposition of 25% and 10% tariffs on consumer goods and gas and oil, respectively, by the US if conditions set by the occupant of the White House were not met. Said conditions are as follows: prevent the crossing south of the border of undocumented people and control the flow of fentanyl to the US. The occupant of the White House then gave Canada a reprieve after he gave Mexico one – a reprieve of one month.

Prorogation tests various Parliamentary principles

February 14, 2025 February 14, 2025 Hon. Joe Volpe

TORONTO – There is no more apt descriptor to encapsulate Federal Court’s hearing on the matter of prorogation . than the question: why are we here (in Court) and not there (in Parliament)?. The soon to be former Prime Minister – former because he resigned effective a specific date in the future, not immediately – has provoked a constitutional matter involving 1. the rule of law, 2. executive overreach and 3. the erosion of the role and powers of Parliament. This according to the Applicants in Court File N.:T-60-25.

February 14, 2025 February 14, 2025 Hon. Joe Volpe
