The Italian “Frecce Tricolori” are already in Canada: first performance on June 22nd after over thirty years

BAGOTVILLE (Quebec) – The Frecce Tricolori have returned to sail the sky above Canada: the National Acrobatic Team (in Italian: Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale – PAN), which left last 10 June from the Rivolto air base (Udine, Italy), after a transfer that lasted over four days and which scheduled for several technical stops in the Netherlands, Scotland, Iceland and Greenland, landed in Bagotville, Quebec, where on 22 June it will take part in the celebrations for the hundredth anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force.  Continue reading→

NATO insists: “We want more money from Canada”, and everyone falls into line

OTTAWA – Canada must reach NATO’s minimum defense spending target and present a plan on how to achieve it to demonstrate to authoritarian regimes that Western allies are aligned: what the secretary general of the Atlantic Alliance, Jess Stoltenberg, said on Wednesday in Canada, it sounds a bit like a “diktat”. As is known, according to data released by NATO itself this week, Canada is expected to spend 1.37% of its gross domestic product on defense this year, well below the 2% target. “Canada’s position in NATO is strong, but we expect all allies to keep their promise to invest 2%” Stoltenberg said at the event hosted by the NATO Association in Ottawa. Anita Anand “damps” NATO on the day of the summit in Ottawa

OTTAWA – It’s hard to believe that she didn’t do it on purpose: just on the eve of the visit to Canada by the Secretary General of NATO, the Federal Treasury Board President Anita Anand declared that it makes no sense to pour large sums of money into the Department of Defense National until the latter has the ability to spend what is given to him. Clear words, especially if said by a former Defense Minister like Anand, who intervened “with a straight leg” in the debate on Canada’s inability to meet the NATO parameter of spending 2% of the country’s gross domestic product in the field military. What foreign interference? It’s just business

TORONTO – If it sounds or feels as if we have heard or “seen this movie before”, we have. Canada seems in the grips of one of its navel-gazing rituals as the political system is consumed by the “issue” foreign interference in our fragile democracy. This time, we have some sneaky, vulnerable, short-sighted Members of Parliament to blame. Or so it would appear, thanks to the suggestions implied in a reading of a report by the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS) tasked with assessing threats to the safety and security of Canada and its inhabitants.
