The CFI organizes several annual international film festivals, including the European Union Film Festival, Bright Nights, the African Film Festival, and the Latin American Film Festival. The CFI’s largest annual festival is the widely respected Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF).

Latin American Cinema

“The Latin American Film Festival has grown to become one of the most anticipated cultural events of the year. This is due to the energy and support of the Latin American embassies and their many ambassadors and staff members throughout the years, our festival sponsors, our volunteers, and you, the generous audience that comes to screenings to explore the incredible diversity and art Latin American cinema”, adds McSorley.

Inocencia, a film by Cuban filmmaker Alejandro Gil.

The Cuban film Inocencia, by the director Alejandro Gil, is one of the 15 proposals of the edition. The story, based on real events, takes place in Cuba in 1871. A group of first-year medical students are imprisoned for an unjust accusation, but only eight of them will be the victim of an unexpected outcome.

After sixteen years in which Fermín Valdés Domínguez, friend and cellmate of the victims, has fought to prove the innocence of those young people, a new clue brings him closer to the key that could unravel the hidden truth.
