A two time former Team USA Winter Olympian in short track speed skate championship and native of Pennsylvania’s Berks County, Allison Baver has pleaded not guilty to federal charges last Tuesday in a court in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
Baver is accused of making false statements on loan applications through the Paycheck Protection Program under the COVID-19 relief aid.
The U.S. Attorney for Utah Prosecutors said she claimed her entertainment company Allison Baver Entertainment had a monthly payroll between $4 million and nearly $5 million, when it had no monthly payroll.
They said she claimed the company employed up to 430 people, when it had no employees.
Prosecutors said Baver received $10 million and invested some of it in Elijah Wood’s film called, No Man of God, a crime drama that chronicles serial killer Ted Bundy’s (Luke Kirby) complex relationship with FBI agent Bill Hagmaier (Wood).
The film, the latest in a string of coronavirus-era true crime offerings, was produced by Wood’s production company SpectreVision.
Baver is facing nine charges, those if convicted she could face up to 30 years in prison on bank fraud counts and 10 years on a money laundering count.
