Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of January 30, 2022, at 4:25 pm EST.

On Saturday, health officials in Russia logged 121,228 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 4.8 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases 87.1% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 617 Covid-related deaths for a total of 330,728 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Ontario, some restrictions removed from tomorrow

TORONTO – Despite everything, there are conditions for a first easing of restrictions. This is what Ontario Premier Doug Ford said when he announced that from tomorrow gyms, restaurants, theaters, casinos – everyone can open at 50% of the capacity – and indoor social gatherings will increase from 5 to 10, outdoors they can reach 25. In addition, it will be possible to consume food or drinks at indoor sporting events, in concert halls, theaters and cinemas: masks will be required when people are not busy drinking or eating.

Protest of COVID-19 restrictions unfolds in Ottawa

TORONTO – Second day of protest today in Ottawa. Thousands of protesters joined the “Freedom Rally” organized by a group of truck drivers to denounce the obligation of vaccination to cross the border with the United States and on Saturday they reached the Capital. The two-day protest was accompanied by an endless series of controversies, accusations and poisons destined to have a long aftermath in the immediate future. First of all, the demonstration of truck drivers, which started from British Columbia, in recent days has completely changed its nature and identity.

Ontario: hospitalizations still in decline, another 58 deaths

TORONTO – Another 58 deaths, bringing the total from the beginning of the pandemic to 11,412, while the number of beds occupied by Covid patients in Ontario hospitals still drops: from 3,439 on Saturday to 3,019 yesterday, of which 587 in units of intensive care (ICU). With the largest vaccination campaign underway, the province has administered more than 30.5 million doses into the arms of Ontarians. According to data last updated on January 30, numbers released by the Ministry of Health show health officials administered 68,327 vaccine doses on Saturday, down from 87,121 doses the day prior.
