House of Commons, the first session two months after the vote

TORONTO – More than two months before the vote, the first session of the House of Commons will take place tomorrow. The parliamentary agenda for this week of work is already well defined. The first institutional step, which will be carried out tomorrow, is the election of the new Speaker of the Chamber. According to the Parliamentary Rules of Procedure, all MPs are formally candidates for the presidency of the House of Commons unless they indicate a will to the contrary. The big favorite on the eve is the Italian Canadian Anthony Rota, already Speaker in the past legislature who enjoys a bipartisan consensus that bypasses the traditional party divisions.  (more…)

Covid-19, today 865 cases in Ontario: never so many in three months

TORONTO – It is necessary to go back until June 4th to find a bulletin of the daily cases of Covid-19 in Ontario that reports more than 850 infections: then the cases were 914. Today, in Ontario, we have not reached at that figure but we are close to it: 865 new infections in twenty-four hours, just now that the provincial health officials have been experiencing fewer than 700 infections for three days.  (more…)

Canada, cases on the rise: “Difficult months ahead”

TORONTO – Autumn and winter will be difficult. Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health says so, and the same Alberta health officials. In both provinces, in fact, cases are now on the rise. Ontario has returned to detect more than 500 new cases of Covid-19: according to data from the Ministry of Health, in fact, 531 new cases were confirmed today, compared to 485 the day before (another 17 deaths were also recorded, although 15 of them occurred months ago and were discovered through a data reconnaissance).  (more…)
