[GTranslate]TORONTO – March 8, 2021: Canada yesterday stood at 888,952 positives for Covid-19, an increase of 2,680 more cases than in the previous 24 hours. The number of victims – nationwide – yesterday reached 22,259 total deaths, 20 more than on Sunday. In Canada yesterday the number of recovered people from the coronavirus stood at 836,013. Ontario yesterday reached 309,927 overall positives, an increase of 1,631 new cases compared to Sunday. The total number of victims in Ontario has meanwhile risen to 7,077, with 10 more deaths than the previous day. The number of recovered people in the province rose to 291,834, or 994 more than the previous 24 hours. There are 879 cases so far registered in Ontario of the English variant of Covid, 39 of the South African variant and 17 of the Brazilian variant.
Yesterday there were 626 people still in the hospital, 282 of them in intensive care and 184 connected to ventilators for assisted breathing. There are 84 retirement and long-term homes that continue to record cases of Covid-19. Yesterday there were 14,979 elderly patients infected in total since the beginning of the emergency and 3,748 total deaths so far recorded among guests of the same facilities. Until yesterday, 6,695 health workers were infected in the same nursing homes and 11 died.
The city of Toronto has exceeded one hundred thousand positives in total – recorded since the beginning of the pandemic – reaching 100,109 yesterday, an increase of 636 cases compared to Sunday. Meanwhile, there were 2,692 total deaths in the city, with 4 new victims recorded compared to the previous 24 hours.
The York Region reached 29,516 total infections yesterday, with 110 more positives than on Sunday and 531 victims since the start of the pandemic, with no new deaths in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, 28,181 people were recovered, while 137 people were still in the hospital, 23 of them in intensive care.
In the city of Vaughan, the total number of people who tested positive for Covid-19 was 12,446 yesterday, or 42% of the entire York Region, with 47 more new infections than in the previous 24 hours. 219 deaths, with no new casualties, recorded yesterday, while 11,886 people were cured. 55 were hospitalized, 8 of them in intensive care.
At Woodbridge yesterday there were 5,298 cases of positivity, 3,285 in Maple, 3,920 in Richmond Hill and 7,675 in Markham.
In the Peel Region yesterday there were 63,903 coronavirus positives, 222 more than the last survey and 625 total victims, with no more deaths than on Sunday. There were 61,734 healings recorded in total, while 1,771 people were hospitalized.
In Mississauga, the total number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus was 22,423 yesterday, 90 more than last Sunday. Also in Mississauga were yesterday 377 victims so far, with a new death recorded in the last 24 hours, while there were 21,518 people recovered from Covid-19 and 865 people so far hospitalized due to the coronavirus.
In Brampton, the total number of people positive for Covid-19 was yesterday 38,696, with 127 new cases of contagion more than on Sunday and equal to 60.6% of the entire Peel Region. 231 confirmed deaths, with no more victims, while 37,541 were found to be healed yesterday.
In Caledon, there were 2,369 registered infections yesterday, 9 more than on Sunday, while 2,286 had recovered and 13 victims overall.
In Hamilton the total number of positives yesterday was 10,831, with 30 new cases of contagion more than in the last testing cycle, while the number of victims so far ascertained was 287, with no new deaths. Finally, there were 9,959 total recoveries.
In Ottawa, 15,167 people were infected yesterday, an increase of 57 positive compared to the last survey, while 443 people died, with no new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. The healed in the capital yesterday were a total of 14,211.
In Quebec yesterday there were 579 new registered cases, for a total of 293,210 infected, along with 9 additional deaths per 10,481 total victims.
