TORONTO – April 12, 2021: Canada stood yesterday at 1,066,289 positives for Covid-19, an increase of 6,131 more cases than in the previous 24 hours. The number of victims – nationwide – yesterday reached 23,332 total deaths, 17 more than on Sunday. In Canada yesterday the number of recovered people from the coronavirus stood at 967,139. Ontario yesterday reached 391,009 overall positives, an increase of 4,401 new cases compared to Sunday. The total number of victims in Ontario has meanwhile risen to 7,567, with 15 more deaths than the previous day. The number of recovered people in the province rose to 348,684 or 2,445 more than the previous 24 hours. There are 16,540 cases so far registered in Ontario of the English variant of Covid, 81 of the South African variant and 140 of the Brazilian variant.
Yesterday there were 1,646 people still in hospital, 619 of them in intensive care – a new daily high record – and 408 connected to ventilators for assisted breathing. There are 41 retirement and long-term homes that continue to record cases of Covid-19. Yesterday there were 15,074 elderly patients infected in total since the beginning of the emergency and 3,755 total deaths so far recorded among guests of the same facilities. Until yesterday, 6,867 health workers were infected in the same nursing homes and 11 died.
The city of Toronto has recorded, since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 125,497 positives yesterday, with an increase of 1,296 cases compared to Sunday. Meanwhile, there were 2,867 total deaths in the city, with 5 new victims recorded compared to the previous 24 hours. 111,043 were found to be healed yesterday.
The York Region reached 38,219, total infections yesterday, with 574 more positives than on Sunday and 566 victims since the start of the pandemic, with no more deaths since the latest bulletin. Yesterday, 34,281 people were recovered, while 43 people were still in hospital, 5 of them in intensive care.
In the city of Vaughan, the total number of people tested positive for Covid-19 was 16,216 yesterday, or 42% of the entire York Region, with 267 more new infections than in the previous 24 hours. 227 deaths, with no more new deaths recorded yesterday, while 14,473 people were cured. 20 were hospitalized, one of them in intensive care.
At Woodbridge yesterday there were 6,986 total cases of positivity since the Covid-19 pandemic started, 4,373 in Maple, 5,388 in Richmond Hill and 9,437 in Markham.
In the Peel Region yesterday there were 79,133 coronavirus positives, 676 more than the last survey and 655 total victims, with one more death than on Sunday. There were 73,815 healings recorded in total, while 2,143 people were hospitalized.
In Mississauga, the total number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus was 27,944 yesterday, 230 more than last Sunday. Also in Mississauga were yesterday 389 victims so far, with one more death recorded in the last 24 hours, while there were 25,928 people recovered from Covid-19 and 1,028 people so far hospitalized due to the coronavirus.
In Brampton the total number of people positive for Covid-19 was yesterday 47,712 with 397 new cases of contagion more than on Sunday. 251 confirmed deaths, with no more victims in the previous 24 hours, while 44,767 were found to be healed yesterday.
In Caledon, there were 3,124 registered infections yesterday, 34 more than on Sunday, while 2,864 had recovered and 14 victims overall, with no more deaths.
In Hamilton the total number of positives yesterday was 14,238, with 134 new cases of contagion more than in the last testing cycle, while the number of victims so far ascertained was 334, with 2 more new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.
In Ottawa, 20,073 people were infected yesterday, an increase of 348 positives compared to the last survey, while 476 people died, with one more new death recorded since the last bulletin. The healed in the capital yesterday were a total of 16,978.
In Quebec yesterday there were 1,599 new registered cases, for a total of 327,982 infected, along with 2 additional deaths per 10,744 total victims.
