In Ontario 4,736 new infected and 29 more deaths

TORONTO – April 15, 2021: Canada stood yesterday at 1,093,564 positives for Covid-19, an increase of 6,412 more cases than in the previous 24 hours. The number of victims – nationwide – yesterday reached 23,490 total deaths, 60 more than on Wednesday. In Canada yesterday the number of recovered people from the coronavirus stood at 987,892. Ontario yesterday reached 403,571 overall positives, an increase of 4,736 new cases compared to Wednesday. The total number of victims in Ontario has meanwhile risen to 7,639, with 29 more deaths than the previous day. The number of recovered people in the province rose to 357,591 or 3,174 more than the previous 24 hours. There are 27,278 cases so far registered in Ontario of the English variant of Covid, 95 of the South African variant and 191 of the Brazilian variant.

Yesterday there were 1,932 people still in hospital, 659 of them in intensive care – a new record high – and 442 connected to ventilators for assisted breathing. There are 40 retirement and long-term homes that continue to record cases of Covid-19. Yesterday there were 15,081 elderly patients infected in total since the beginning of the emergency and 3,755 total deaths so far recorded among guests of the same facilities. Until yesterday, 6,883 health workers were infected in the same nursing homes and 11 died.

The city of Toronto has recorded, since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 129,023 positives yesterday, with an increase of 1,299 cases compared to Wednesday. Meanwhile, there were 2,893 total deaths in the city, with 15 new victims recorded compared to the previous 24 hours. 113,647 were found to be healed yesterday.

The York Region reached 39,722, total infections yesterday, with 545 more positives than on Wednesday and 573 victims since the start of the pandemic, with 6 more deaths since the latest bulletin. Yesterday, 35,191 people were recovered, while 44 people were still in hospital, 7 of them in intensive care.

In the city of Vaughan, the total number of people tested positive for Covid-19 was 16,869 yesterday, or 42% of the entire York Region, with 246 more new infections than in the previous 24 hours. 228 deaths, with no more new deaths recorded yesterday, while 14,856 people were cured. 23 were hospitalized, 2 of them in intensive care.

At Woodbridge yesterday there were 7,248 total cases of positivity since the Covid-19 pandemic started, 4,533 in Maple, 5,616 in Richmond Hill and 9,773 in Markham.

In the Peel Region yesterday there were 81,578 coronavirus positives, 932 more than the last survey and 658 total victims, with one more death than on Wednesday. There were 75,599 healings recorded in total, while 2,215 people were hospitalized.

In Mississauga, the total number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus was 28,897 yesterday, 372 more than last Wednesday. Also in Mississauga were yesterday 391 victims so far, with one  more death recorded in the last 24 hours, while there were 26,594 people recovered from Covid-19 and 1,058 people so far hospitalized due to the coronavirus.

In Brampton the total number of people positive for Covid-19 was yesterday 49,091 with 518 new cases of contagion more than on Wednesday. 252 confirmed deaths, with no more victims in the previous 24 hours, while 45,808 were found to be healed yesterday.

In Caledon, there were 3,257 registered infections yesterday, 39 more than on Wednesday, while 2,954 had recovered and 14 victims overall, with no more deaths.

In Hamilton the total number of positives yesterday was 14,738, with 156 new cases of contagion more than in the last testing cycle, while the number of victims so far ascertained was 341, with 4 more new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.

In Ottawa, 20,966 people were infected yesterday, an increase of 370 positives compared to the last survey, while 479 people died, with no more new deaths recorded since the last bulletin. The healed in the capital yesterday were a total of 17,534.

In Quebec yesterday there were 1,513 new registered cases, for a total of 332,544 infected, along with 15 additional deaths per 10,778 total victims.
