TORONTO – April 19, 2021: Canada stood yesterday at 1,127,181 positives for Covid-19, an increase of 5,683 more cases than in the previous 24 hours. The number of victims – nationwide – yesterday reached 23,656 total deaths, 33 more than on Sunday. In Canada yesterday the number of recovered people from the coronavirus stood at 1,014,894. Ontario yesterday reached 421,442 overall positives, an increase of 4,447 new cases compared to Sunday. The total number of victims in Ontario has meanwhile risen to 7,735, with 19 more deaths than the previous day. The number of recovered people in the province rose to 370,844 or 3,153 more than the previous 24 hours. There are 36,579 cases so far registered in Ontario of the English variant of Covid, 104 of the South African variant and 211 of the Brazilian variant.
Yesterday there were 2,202 people still in hospital, 755 of them in intensive care – a new record high – and 516 connected to ventilators for assisted breathing. There are 39 retirement and long-term homes that continue to record cases of Covid-19. Yesterday there were 15,105 elderly patients infected in total since the beginning of the emergency and 3,755 total deaths so far recorded among guests of the same facilities. Until yesterday, 6,896 health workers were infected in the same nursing homes and 11 died.
The city of Toronto has recorded, since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 134,534 positives yesterday, with an increase of 1,477 cases compared to Sunday. Meanwhile, there were 2,937 total deaths in the city, with 6 new victims recorded compared to the previous 24 hours. 117,610 were found to be healed yesterday.
The York Region reached 41,711 total infections yesterday, with 572 more positives than on Sunday and 583 victims since the start of the pandemic, with 3 more deaths since the latest bulletin. Yesterday, 36,485 people were recovered, while 71 people were still in hospital, 8 of them in intensive care.
In the city of Vaughan, the total number of people tested positive for Covid-19 was 17,391 yesterday, or 42% of the entire York Region, with 252 more new infections than in the previous 24 hours. 231 deaths, with 3 more new deaths recorded yesterday, while 15,150 people were cured. 30 were hospitalized, 3 of them in intensive care.
At Woodbridge yesterday there were 7,464 total cases of positivity since the Covid-19 pandemic started, 4,817 in Maple, 5,799 in Richmond Hill and 9,885 in Markham.
In the Peel Region yesterday there were 84,963 coronavirus positives, 849 more than the last survey and 666 total victims, with no more deaths than on the last bulletin. There were 78,819 healings recorded in total, while 2,313 people were hospitalized.
In Mississauga, the total number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus was 30,172 yesterday, 294 more than last Sunday. Also in Mississauga were yesterday 394 victims so far, with no more deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, while there were 27,782 people recovered from Covid-19 and 1,096 people so far hospitalized due to the coronavirus.
In Brampton the total number of people positive for Covid-19 was yesterday 51,085 with 520 new cases of contagion more than on Sunday. 257 confirmed deaths, with no more victims in the previous 24 hours, while 47,639 were found to be healed yesterday.
In Caledon, there were 3,390 registered infections yesterday, 32 more than on Sunday, while 3,390 had recovered and 14 victims overall, with no more deaths.
In Hamilton the total number of positives yesterday was 15,517, with 214 new cases of contagion more than in the last testing cycle, while the number of victims so far ascertained was 346, with 2 more new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.
In Ottawa, 22,038 people were infected yesterday, an increase of 203 positives compared to the last survey, while 482 people died, with no more new deaths recorded since the last bulletin. The healed in the capital yesterday were a total of 18,144.
