Bangladesh’s Globe Biotech corona vaccine in its ethical approval process

Muhammad Ali Bukhari, April 25, 2021August 25, 2023

Toronto, April 25: In a week’s time, the ethical approval will be given for the corona vaccine made in Bangladesh by Globe Biotech, said Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) Chairman Prof. Dr. Syed Modasser Ali. Today at local time on Sunday morning there, he spoke to the media about it. After the approval, the vaccine will be administered experimentally to humans.

It is learned that three vaccines made by Globe Biotech, a Bangladeshi company, were included in the list of vaccine preclinical candidates of the World Health Organization in October last year. It has been developed as a vaccine for Covid-19 called Bangavax. For such, Globe Biotech has applied for permission to test the coronavirus vaccine in humans they have produced, and therefore the application was made to the Bangladesh Medical Research Council.

It is said that the vaccine will be administered to hundreds of volunteers at a private hospital in the capital Dhaka for a trial within seven to ten days after the approval.

Earlier, Kakon Nag, CEO of Globe Biotech, told the media that an application was filed for the clinical trial by the Clinical Research Organization Limited, which is acting as an approved agency by the Drug Administration of Bangladesh. That company is also in charge of clinical trial management, sponsored by Globe Biotech.

In his words, Mr. Nag said, “The clinical trial is usually done through a third party, and that company is working to that role.” Then the trial process takes place by a research team. As the Drug Administration in Bangladesh has prolonged the approval process, it alternatively applied to the BMRC.

During the earlier submission at Drug Administration, Globe Biotech had informed that the application for their vaccine trial in the human body has all the detail of its trial conduction process, but it was not disclosed. At that time, Mr. Nag said the trial would be decided by the ethics committee. Now, presumably, it is to be in a private hospital in Dhaka.
