Decisiveness

Ricky Castellvi, March 30, 2021August 25, 2023

Cannot make up your mind? There can be so many unknowns. Worrying about the downside? Are we playing it safe, or taking chances? On the Covid-19 vaccination, what is in it? Is it safe? What about side effects?

Let us look at other medications. Do we know what is in Tylenol when we take it to rid ourselves of headaches? Comedian Chris Rock said, “Do I know what is in Tylenol? I do not know what is in Tylenol. I just know my headache is gone when I take it. ” What about those immunization shots we subjected our kids to at a very young age? Did we know if it was safe when we allowed doctors to administer them to our babies?

Of course, we have to listen to those in authority at the Food and Drug Administration who approve treatments. They are responsible in protecting us, the public. Before any medication or vaccine even gets out, the FDA has put it through very thorough and rigorous safety tests, ensuring its safety and efficacy. When the FDA puts their stamp of approval on a product, they are assuring the public that it meets the highest safety standards and that its merits outweigh all known and potential risks.

The problem does not lie in the vaccine being offered, but in our perception. As the saying goes, we are our worst enemies. We let the fear of the unknown get the best of us. Too many what-ifs stop us from moving forward. A friend of mine calls it analysis paralysis.

History has taught us to trust the guardians of our health and welfare. Here are some things many of us worried about.

> Earlier before 2000 HIV.

> 2000 – Y2K would destroy everything.

> 2001 – Anthrax would kill us

> 2002 – the West Nile virus would kill us

> 2003 – SARS would kill us

> 2005 – Bird Flu would kill us

> 2006 – E. coli would kill us

> 2008 – the financial collapse will be the end of us

> 2009 – African Swine Flu would kill us

> 2012 – the end of the world, according to the Mayan calendar

> 2013 – North Korea would trigger WWIII

> 2014 – the Ebola virus would kill us

> 2015 – ISIS would kill us

> 2016 – the Zika virus would kill us.

> 2019- Hanggang ngayon Covid-19 kills millions, causing a global panic. But just like the rest, this will pass and mankind will live forevermore.

> We did our part and obey the rules of COVID 19 protocols. We put on masks, some with face shields, and keep distance, take lockdown seriously, stay home.

> Let’s do our part by registering for the Covid-19 vaccine today. It provides hope for this pandemic to end.
