Exasperated restaurateurs in Rome
try to break through the police cordon:
“No more closures, we are ruined”

Marzio Pelù, April 6, 2021August 25, 2023

[GTranslate]Very high tension in the square in Montecitorio in Rome where today the protest sit-in of restaurateurs and other categories (such as those of gym managers and entertainment workers) is taking place against the continuous closures for the Covid emergency.

Several thousand people, shouting for “freedom” and “buffoons”, after trying in vain to get a meeting between their delegation and government representatives, decided to try to break through the police cordon (in the photo above). According to some media agencies, there were injuries among both the police and the demonstrators, as well as some arrested among the latter.

“We are ruined: we have not worked for a year and we no longer see a future for us or for our children. That’s enough, we’ll all open tomorrow. Fine, arrest us, we have already been in jail for a year “said during the garrison the representatives of the demonstrators belonging to various acronyms, including “Io Apro” (its Facebook page is followed by almost 80,000 people).

The protest also saw the presence of the blue flags of Italexit, the movement of Senator Gianluigi Paragone (ex M5S), the militants of the far-right movement CasaPound and a Modenese restaurateur dressed as Jake Angeli, a member of the Q- movement. Anon who raided the US Congress in Washington, wearing a horned headdress (in the pic) similar to the one seen during the assault on Capitol Hill. Also present was the parliamentarian Vittorio Sgarbi.

Similar protests also in Milan, where street vendors took to the streets, as well as in Imperia and Foggia. Other events are scheduled for tomorrow in other squares in Italy.
