In Ontario 1,553 new infected and 15 more deaths

[GTranslate]TORONTO – March 18, 2021: Canada yesterday stood at 921,606 positives for Covid-19, an increase of 3,430 more cases than in the previous 24 hours. The number of victims – nationwide – yesterday reached 22,580 total deaths, 35 more than on Wednesday. In Canada yesterday the number of recovered people from the coronavirus stood at 867,014. Ontario yesterday reached 323,509 overall positives, an increase of 1,553 new cases compared to Wednesday. The total number of victims in Ontario has meanwhile risen to 7,202, with 15 more deaths than the previous day. The number of recovered people in the province rose to 303,493 or 1.236 more than the previous 24 hours. There are 1.136 cases so far registered in Ontario of the English variant of Covid, 47 of the South African variant and 35 of the Brazilian variant.

Yesterday there were 730 people still in the hospital, 304 of them in intensive care and 186 connected to ventilators for assisted breathing. There are 59 retirement and long-term homes that continue to record cases of Covid-19. Yesterday there were 14,992 elderly patients infected in total since the beginning of the emergency and 3,752 total deaths so far recorded among guests of the same facilities. Until yesterday, 6,760 health workers were infected in the same nursing homes and 11 died.

The city of Toronto has recorded, since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 104,306 positives yesterday, with an increase of 467 cases compared to Wednesday. Meanwhile, there were 2,740 total deaths in the city, with 9 new victims recorded compared to the previous 24 hours.

The York Region reached 30,830 total infections yesterday, with 167 more positives than on Wednesday and 546 victims since the start of the pandemic, with 2 more deaths in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, 29,238 people were recovered, while 136 people were still in hospital, 18 of them in intensive care.

In the city of Vaughan, the total number of people who tested positive for Covid-19 was 12,995 yesterday, or 42% of the entire York Region, with 57 more new infections than in the previous 24 hours. 223 deaths, with 2 more new casualties recorded yesterday, while 12,333 people were cured. 59 were hospitalized, 7 of them in intensive care.

At Woodbridge yesterday there were 5,539 cases of positivity, 3,454 in Maple, 4.136 in Richmond Hill and 7,917 in Markham.

In the Peel Region yesterday there were 66,550 coronavirus positives, 370 more than the last survey and 629 total victims, with no more deaths than on Wednesday. There were 63,937 healings recorded in total, while 1,829 people were hospitalized.

In Mississauga, the total number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus was 23,349 yesterday, 134 more than last Wednesday. Also in Mississauga were yesterday 378 victims so far, with no more deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, while there were 22,290 people recovered from Covid-19 and 894 people so far hospitalized due to the coronavirus.

In Brampton the total number of people positive for Covid-19 was yesterday 40,219, with 221 new cases of contagion more than on Wednesday. 234 confirmed deaths, with no more victims, while 38,851 were found to be healed yesterday.

In Caledon, there were 2,508 registered infections yesterday, 15 more than on Wednesday, while 2,382 had recovered and 13 victims overall, with no more deaths.

In Hamilton the total number of positives yesterday was 11,489, with 60 new cases of contagion more than in the last testing cycle, while the number of victims so far ascertained was 297, with no more new deaths. Finally, there were 10,430 total recoveries.

In Ottawa, 15,840 people were infected yesterday, an increase of 83 positives compared to the last survey, while 450 people died, with no more new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. The healed in the capital yesterday were a total of 14,763.

In Quebec yesterday there were 702 new registered cases, for a total of 300,152 infected, along with 7 additional deaths per 10,576 total victims.
