TORONTO – May 24, 2021: Canada stood yesterday at 1,359,683 positives for Covid-19, an increase of 2,503 more cases than in the previous 24 hours. The number of victims – nationwide – yesterday reached 25,242 total deaths, 27 more than in the previous 24 hours. In Canada yesterday the number of recovered people from the coronavirus stood at 1,281,009. Ontario yesterday reached 522,465 overall positives, an increase of 1,691 new cases compared to the previous day. The total number of victims in Ontario has meanwhile risen to 8,614, with 15 more deaths than the previous day. The number of recovered people in the province rose to 493,179 or 2,458 more than the previous 24 hours. There are 117,941 cases so far registered in Ontario of the English variant of Covid, 805 of the South African variant and 2,405 of the Brazilian variant.
Yesterday there were 1,041 people still in hospital, 693 of them in intensive care and 480 connected to ventilators for assisted breathing. There are 34 retirement and long-term homes that continue to record cases of Covid-19. Yesterday there were 15,284 elderly patients infected in total since the beginning of the emergency and 3,947 total deaths so far recorded among guests of the same facilities. Until yesterday, 7,079 health workers were infected in the same nursing homes and 11 died.
The city of Toronto has recorded, since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 163,990 positives yesterday, with an increase of 461 cases than the previous day. Meanwhile, there were 3,307 total deaths in the city, with 11 new victims. 153.554 were found to be healed yesterday. There were 979 people still in hospital, 250 in intensive care and 152 connected to ventilators for assisted breathing.
The York Region reached 51,335 total infections yesterday, with 127 more positives than on the previous day and 656 victims since the start of the pandemic. Yesterday, 49.766 people were recovered.
In the city of Vaughan, the total number of people tested positive for Covid-19 was 21,216 yesterday, or 41% of the entire York Region, with 56 more new infections than in the previous 24 hours. 257 deaths, with no more new deaths recorded yesterday.
In Woodbridge yesterday there were 9,116 total cases of positivity since the Covid-19 pandemic started, 6,051 in Maple, 7,262 in Richmond Hill and 12,281 in Markham.
In the Peel Region yesterday there were 107,800 coronavirus positives, 241 more than the last survey and 754 total victims, with one more death than on the last bulletin. There were 104,228 healings recorded in total, while 2,952 people were hospitalized.
In Mississauga, the total number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus was 38,785 yesterday, 84 more than the previous day. Also in Mississauga were yesterday 429 victims so far, with no more deaths recorded, while there were 37,342 people recovered from Covid-19 and 1,405 people so far hospitalized due to the coronavirus.
In Brampton the total number of people positive for Covid-19 was yesterday 64,343 with 158 new cases of contagion more than on Tuesday. 305 confirmed deaths, with no more victims since the last bulletin, while 62,414 were found to be healed yesterday.
In Caledon, there were 4,314 registered infections yesterday, 6 more than the previous day, while 4,208 had recovered and 18 victims overall, with no more deaths confirmed.
In Hamilton the total number of positives yesterday was 20,126 with 50 new cases of contagion more than in the last testing cycle, while the number of victims so far ascertained was 378, with no more new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.
In Ottawa, 26,643 people were infected yesterday, an increase of 43 positives compared to the last survey, while 556 people died, with 2 more new deaths recorded since the last bulletin. The healed in the capital yesterday were a total of 25,184.
In Quebec yesterday there were 433 new registered cases, for a total of 367,809 infected, along with 11 additional deaths per 11.095 total victims.
