Italian Canadians in Sudbury key to electoral victory


TORONTO – The lead up to Ontario’s 2022 General Election will be a hectic time for candidates. Specifically, the need to build support for their political party while addressing the concerns of voters in their constituency. With the official start of the campaign less than six weeks away, the Corriere begins our electoral district profile series.

The focus will be on constituencies where Italian Canadians make up a significant portion of the district population and number more than 8,000.

Education and the costs of ’the fog of war’ at the TCDSB

TORONTO – The current educational “vision” statement of the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), judging from the March 24, 2022, Board meeting, is devoid of school or Catholic issues. Whether the Board can survive after this provincial election requires an act of faith not supported by “the debate” offered last Thursday. If you have children in the system, you will have to reassess why. 

Ontario, active Covid cases are back to close to 20 thousand

TORONTO – Covid-19, hospitalizations in Ontario are returning to drop, after the surge recorded in recent days: today a total of 553 people were hospitalized in the hospitals of the province, including 157 inpatients in intensive care. Much less, therefore, than the 707 reported on Saturday and 667 on Friday, although it should be remembered that not all hospitals communicate their data on Sundays. 

Medical emergency at venue, Poilievre’s Brampton rally cancelled: the video

BRAMPTON – The rally for Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre in Brampton was cancelled due to a medical emergency. An adult male was taken to hospital after suffering a medical episode Saturday morning.

Peel paramedic crews attended the scene at Brampton’s Pearson Convention Centre (2638 Steeles Ave. E) around 10:15 a.m.

At the venue, paramedics tended to a man in his 60s, in critical, life-threatening condition. He was transported, via ambulance, to a local hospital, paramedics said.

Poilievre briefly appeared at the gathering with his wife Anaida by his side, along with Andrew Scheer, MP for Regina – Qu-Appelle and former Conservative Party Leader.  He told the room of about one thousand supporters that the rally will be reconvened at a later date. He asked all who were gathered to observe a moment of silence and to pray for the man’s well-being.

Italy – North Macedonia 0-1: Azzurri out of the World Cup

PALERMO – Italy defeated 0-1 by North Macedonia in the playoff semifinal for access to the 2022 World Cup: the Azzurri therefore remain sensationally out of the top international competition for the second consecutive edition. Mancini’s team dominated for over 90 ‘, wasting a lot. And it was punished in the 92nd minute by a great goal from Trajkovski. The Macedonians will now play for a place in Qatar in the final against Portugal who defeated Turkey 3-1 in the other semifinal.

Canadian passport, long renewal times

TORONTO – It will have been the timid but encouraging signs on the pandemic front, with many countries that are removing all the restrictions or it will be the impression of having lost two years, the fact is that the desire to travel has been rekindled. Often, however, we realize that the passport has expired. And just to be able to renew it, Canadians are experiencing long waiting times due to the increase in applications. 

Canada, ordinary hospitalizations increase and active cases start growing again

TORONTO – Covid-19: 661 people in Ontario hospitals today with Covid-19, including 165 intensive care inpatients. Therefore, the trend that has characterized the last few days is confirmed: ordinary hospitalizations on the rise (yesterday there were 611) and intensive care in decline (on Wednesday there were 174). Unfortunately, the trend of victims also remains almost unchanged: today another 10, bringing the total of Ontario from the beginning of the pandemic to 12,366.
