Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – Songs, drums, speeches, dances. But also painful testimonies and tears. For the first time in its history, Canada celebrated The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation yesterday. A day, that of yesterday, established by Ottawa last June 3 to commemorate the tragic and painful history of residential schools, to remember the dead children and those who survived, their families and communities. →
TORONTO – Controversy over mandatory vaccine for certain categories in Ontario and Canada is re-erupted. The issue, thorny and controversial, has been lying under the ashes for some time, covered in recent weeks by the noise of the electoral campaign and the media fury on parties, leaders and their programs. Closed the voting chapter, the issue has re-ebbed in recent days in a disruptive way, causing a trail of controversy, accusations and poisons with uncertain outcomes. →
TORONTO – On November 3, 2020, Republican David Andahl won the election for a seat in the North Dakota Legislature. Voters gave him 36 percent of the vote, enough for the candidate to win the election. And this despite the fact that Andahl had died of Covid a month earlier, on October 5. The electorate, in order not to vote for the other candidates, preferred to elect the one who had already passed to a better life. In the last federal election in the Spadina-Fort York district we witnessed something similar. →
TORONTO – Last week, I passed the play yard of an elementary school and saw children, presumably aged five and six, enjoying the pleasant morning’s tail of summer weather, running and playing games they concocted or just enjoying each other’s company. It felt good seeing kids back to school for in-person learning. But, I must admit, it also felt bad to see them all masked up. →
We publish a letter by Phil Hornak, a member of the TCDSB Parent Coouncils, which points out a series of issues that worry the families of students attending Catholic Schools in Toronto.
TORONTO – TCDSB staffing and contractors have been added and established to lay the cover deemed required in this less than genuine operation. The Parent Engagement Group, Integrity Commissioner and Social Media Group are excellent examples of these type of initiatives. Look and sound nice but facilitates what? How many parents are actually being reached by the schools or Board? →
