Toronto schools, 15% absent on Friday

TORONTO – According to data provided by school boards to the Ontario government, more than 15 percent of all staff and students at Toronto’s public schools were absent on Friday. The province’s Ministry of Education indicated that of the 385 schools on the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) that reported absence data for last Friday, 23 TDSB schools reported absences of more than 30 percent, and all but two were high schools where students were preparing for exams or taking them.

Nursing homes, from Friday no tests for asymptomatic immunized

TORONTO – With phase 3 in Ontario will also come a relaxation of restrictions in long-term care homes in the province. From Friday, in fact, the Covid test that is performed at the entrance of LTC homes will no longer be a requirement for staff, health workers and visitors completely immunized and asymptomatic. The decision was made by the government in consultation with Dr Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health, and is based on the latest scientific evidence and expert advice. (more…)

75 Canadian Imams express solidarity with Indigenous peoples at Friday Prayer Congregation

TORONTO – Muslim religious leaders (Imams) across Canada read a special solidarity statement for Indigenous peoples during their respective weekly congregations at mosques on Friday, July 9th, 2021. This unified call to action, announced by the Canadian human rights organization Justice for All, is an expressed “support and solidarity with grieving Indigenous communities, former residential school students, and families of the lost children. About seventy-five Imams across the country have responded to a joint call by Justice For All Canada & the Canadian Council of Imams for a coordinated effort in extending condolences at this time of immeasurable trauma and grief for Indigenous peoples”. Ontario to enter Step 1 of reopening Friday

TORONTO – Turning point on the reopening front. The Ontario government announced today that starting Friday the province will enter Step 1 of the roadmap for the reopening of the economy. Doug Ford and Christine Elliott had previously planned to loosen the restrictions from Monday, June 14, but in recent days the premier and health minister had hinted that flattening the epidemiological curve could accelerate the start of Step 1.
