Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – Not every day you have the pleasure of shaking hands and congratulating an Olympic champion. Adriana Leon, striker of the Canadian women’s football team, just back from the Tokyo Olympics where the girls won the gold medal by beating Sweden, wanted to visit the old neighbors and friends of Maple where she was born and who since she was a young girl there they saw her grow up with the ball on her foot. TOKYO – July 27, 2021: Italian swimming sensation, Federica Pellegrini, made history at Tokyo 2020 on Tuesday by qualifying for the Olympic final in the 200 meters freestyle for the fifth consecutive time. No woman swimmer had ever achieved this feat before, in the same event, and only Michael Phelps has done it among the men. (more…)
MAZARA DEL VALLO (Trapani) – She has launched many appeals in the last seventeen years, since that September 1st when her little Denise, only 4 years old, disappeared from Mazara del Vallo, in Sicily (Italy). Now the mother, Piera Maggio, addresses her directly and does so on social media, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, with a message that moves the whole of Italy. (more…)
Canada’s Indigenous Relation Minister, Carolyn Bennett apologized publicly to an Indigenous MP yesterday after suggesting Jody Wilson-Raybould’s concern over residential schools and Indigenous rights was really a ploy to secure a generous MP pension. “Earlier I offered my apologies directly to the MP for Vancouver-Granville. I let interpersonal dynamics get the better of me and sent an insensitive and inappropriate comment, which I deeply regret and shouldn’t have done,” Minister Bennett said in a Twitter post (in the screenshot above). The illusion of having found her in Olesya Rostova, the Russian girl looking for her mother, lasted only a few days and had turned into a kind of reality show (read our article here: “Olesya is not Denise”: hope collapses on TV like in a reality show ).
