On Tuesday, Ontario reached a grim milestone after public health officials reported three more Covid-related deaths for a total of 10,000 fatalities attributable to the virus since the start of the pandemic. Some school boards seem to be losing their bearings. On December 7, the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) trustees will meet to choose a new Chair and Vice Chair for the Board and its Committees to lead them into the final year of the Board’s mandate before the 2022 election. Patrick Murphy and Marvin Duarte are the incumbents in the two senior positions.
The past three years have been challenging for the Board on several fronts. Board meetings have been characterized by factional divides and “dysfunctionality”. (more…)

With the largest vaccination campaign underway, the province has administered more than 22.9 million doses into the arms of Ontarians. According to data last updated on November 30, numbers released by the Ministry of Health show health officials administered 27,129 vaccine doses on Monday, up from 22,442 doses the day prior.

Numbers still not very reassuring for Ontario, where the moving average of daily cases calculated over seven days is now approaching 800: today it was 782, a week ago it was 656. Black Friday sales aside, now Cyber Monday deals entice customers to spend as the holidays draw near. However, small businesses are still reeling from the impacts of Covid-19 and the ongoing labour shortages combined with supply chain disruptions present further challenges in trying to build back lost revenue over the past 19 months.
According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), about 61% of small businesses have yet to meet their pre-pandemic revenues. Another 22% say they will not make it passed another six months at the current level of revenue loss. Time may be running out.
