Life’s Lessons: if you earn it, you deserve it

TORONTO – I confess to not being a fan of President Donald Trump. Nor do I bear him any animus. His approach to the daily challenges that Life may throw our way appear different from the ones my parents laid out for me and my siblings. And, from a professional perspective, it is “my job” to critique so that our readers may have a balanced view of a politico whose weight on the scales of “good or bad” has a bigger impact than the insignificant expression of “right or wrong” expressed by ordinary citizens otherwise consumed by the need to mind their own business.

$1 billion pressure on City’s budget: Tax increases getting closer?

TORONTO – Toronto’s budget opens with a $1 billion pressure on the operating budget and an $18 billion infrastructure need over the next decade, said a few days ago Councillor Shelley Carroll, chair of the City’s Budget Committee. TORONTO – L’emergenza incendi si avvia verso la conclusione, con “soli” 18 incendi ancora fuori controllo (dato rilevato di ieri dal Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre CIFFC – qui) e si tracciano i primi bilanci. Columbus Day and Italian Festival in Dallas: a unique and significant event in the southern United States 

DALLAS – The Columbus Day celebration took place on a warm afternoon at Klyde Warren Park in the heart of downtown Dallas. The master of ceremonies, Jay Lombardo, opened the program by introducing Diego Fresquez for the national anthems. Official greetings were delivered by Consul General Mauro Lorenzini from Houston, who, after thanking the event organizers, emphasized the importance of celebrating Columbus Day and highlighted the strong bond between Italy and the USA. Also present were representatives of Comites, Antonio Iocchi and Alessandro Pauri, and Dallas consular correspondent Richard Gussoni.

Wildfires: 52,000 displaced this season amidst a thousand difficulties

TORONTO – The fire emergency is nearing its end, with “only” 18 fires still out of control (data collected today by the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center, CIFFC – here), and the first assessments are being made. One is from the Canadian Red Cross, which over the summer recorded 52,000 people displaced across the Prairies, Ontario and Atlantic Canada, making it the agency’s largest domestic operation in recent memory. This veritable exodus has necessitated mobilization, often difficult especially because this year the fires started early, catching everyone unprepared.  Continue reading→
