টরন্টো, জুলাই ৬: আন্তর্জাতিক গণমাধ্যমের স্বাধীনতায় বিশ্বাসী রিপোটার্স উইদআউট বর্ডার্স (আরএসএফ) স্বাধীন গণমাধ্যমের উপর ন্যাক্কারজনক হস্তক্ষেপের বিবেচনায় ৩৭ জন রাষ্ট্র ও সরকার প্রধানের চিত্র সংবলিত গ্যালারি প্রকাশ করতে যাচ্ছে। ওই তালিকার কিছু ব্যক্তিত্ব ‘প্রিডেটর্স অব প্রেস ফ্রিডম’ হিসেবে গত দুই দশক ধরে ক্ষমতাসীন রয়েছেন এবং অপরাপররা ওই তালিকাভুক্ত হয়েছেন, তাতে দুই নারীসহ ইউরোপের একজন প্রথমবারের মতো যুক্ত হচ্ছেন। Continue reading→

For the first time an indigenous leader in the role of Governor General of Canada

For the first time in the history of Canada, an indigenous person is called to fill the role of governor general: she is Mary Simon, Inuk leader and former diplomat. Her appointment, announced today by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec, was approved by Queen Elizabeth (the office of governor general is in a representative function of Her Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Canada). Per la prima volta nella storia del Canada, una persona indigena è chiamata a ricoprire il ruolo di governatore generale: è Mary Simon (nella foto), leader Inuk ed ex diplomatica. TORONTO – Tra due mesi esatti inizierà il nuovo anno scolastico e in Ontario il piano sul rientro è ancora in alto mare.
