TORONTO – There is no more apt descriptor to encapsulate Federal Court’s hearing on the matter of prorogation . than the question: why are we here (in Court) and not there (in Parliament)?. The soon to be former Prime Minister – former because he resigned effective a specific date in the future, not immediately – has provoked a constitutional matter involving 1. the rule of law, 2. executive overreach and 3. the erosion of the role and powers of Parliament. This according to the Applicants in Court File N.:T-60-25.

TORONTO – Toronto Centre: the presence of so many churches (both Protestant and Catholic) as well as Cathedrals – St. Michael’s, St. James, St. Paul – in Old Toronto led to the once-held reputation of “Toronto the Good”. It was, of course anything but. Nestled between the University, the Insurance Companies, the eastern territories of the federated colleges that comprised the University of Toronto and the hospitals and scientific research centers, was the old “Annex” – slum-like environment for new arrivals to Canada…

TORONTO – The outgoing premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, continues to focus on the theme of the economy and “defence from Ontario” and, commenting on yet another Trump announcement on new tariffs for steel and aluminium, he published a post on X complaining about the American President’s unpredictability: “This is the next four years. Shifting goalposts and constant chaos, putting our economy at risk” Ford wrote, adding the reason he called for an early provincial election: “I’m asking the people for a strong, stable, four-year mandate that outlasts the Trump administration to do whatever it takes, to always be ready to protect Ontario”… →
“Alas poor Yorick, I knew him…” (Hamlet, Shakespeare)
It may be a fitting image of Liberal policies (former) being cast aside by an emerging generation of citizens who are struck by the dissonance between what they see and what is being presented. Yorick being all that is left of a once proud icon of what Canadian government aspired to do for those it represented.
