“Frecce Tricolori”, waiting for the Toronto fly-over: here’s when and where to watch

Marzio Pelù, July 29, 2024July 29, 2024

TORONTO – There is great excitement in Toronto, especially among the Italian community, for the Frecce Tricolori fly-over, scheduled for Thursday, the 1th of August. The Italian Air Force provided further details, explaining that the fly-over is scheduled approximately between 4.30pm and 5.30pm in the CN Tower area: therefore downtown Toronto will be the best place to see the Italian “Top Guns” in action and admire the “tricolor” that will make white-red-and-green the sky above the city (the time and location, the Italian Air Force says, are subject to change: updates on social networks of “Aeronautica Militare”).

Meanwhile, in recent days the National Acrobatic Team (Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale – PAN) has been the protagonist of other overflights and shows. On the morning of Monday 22 July, the PAN reached the Canadian airport of Moose Jaw, after having departed from Cold Lake, the location where the “Frecce Tricolori” had performed the previous weekend: a fly-over at Moose Jaw was scheduled and the wait was really a lot, but unfortunately the weather conditions and the persistence of the smoke caused by the various fires that occurred in the area did not allow the overflight to be carried out with the traditional “tricolor” smoke. The Air Force pilots then met with their counterparts from the Royal Canadian Air Force, whom they had already met last June during a joint fly-over in Ottawa. After the greetings and the group photo, the National Acrobatic Team set off again towards Fargo (USA).

From there, the North America Tour 2024 continued with the “AirVenture2024” air show in Oshkosh (Wisconsin) organized at the “Wittman” regional airport on Tuesday 23 July, while on Saturday 27 July the Frecce Tricolori spread their white-red-and-green smoke over the city of Chicago, capturing people’s admiring glances. The focal point of the passages was the Navy Pier, where around 700 people belonging to the Italian community and the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans (JCCIA), an organization of which many Italian Americans from Chicago belong, gathered for the occasion. Also, there was the Consul General of Italy in Chicago, Thomas Botzios. The JCCIA itself has promoted a series of initiatives to celebrate the presence of the Armed Forces in the city, encouraging meetings with the local Italian American community.

The tour continued with the Air and Water Show in Milwaukee on July 27 and 28. And on Thursday 1st August it will be Toronto’s turn.

All information on the “Frecce Tricolori” North American Tour is available here.
