India’s SFF in ‘Phantoms of Chittagong’ documentary

According to Army experts, about 3,500 followers of Nobel Peace laureate Dalai Lama, who took refuge in India, mainly guerillas of high altitude warfare from the Tibetan ‘Chushi Gangdruk’, are known as India’s Secret Frontier Force (SFF). This unit was established right after the war of 1962 between India and China.

The recent ‘Phantoms of Chittagong’ documentary maker (available in YouTube) journalist Kalsang Rinchen said to me, ‘We fought in 1971 for Bangladesh, even then our words were kept secret, then in 1991 we fought against Pakistan in Kargil, which also remained kept secret. But, now for the first time this has been acknowledged. I am very happy about it.’

In fact, Nyima Tenzin (51), an Indian commando was killed in a landmine blast near Pangong Tso Lake in Ladakh in August 2020, when India and China clashed on India’s northern border. He served in the SFF for more than three decades. Ram Madhav, a senior leader from the ruling BJP attended his state funeral. Thereafter this secretive force came to the light.
