Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – Last week, school communities in North America got two “wake up calls”. The first involved the murder of an eighteen year old student by a fourteen year old shooter, in the hallways of the school they both attend(ed), David and Mary Thompson Collegiate (DMTC), in Toronto, just as classes were being dismissed.
TORONTO – Covid-19 hospitalizations in Ontario and the rest of Canada are falling significantly. The trend of the last few weeks is therefore confirmed, negative only in terms of deaths: their number in fact has always been high and only in the last few days has there been a sharp decline – both in Ontario and Quebec – which, hopefully, will be confirmed in the week just started. But let’s go in order and let’s start from Ontario. →
TORONTO – At the corner of Mayfield Rd and The Gore Rd in Brampton, west of Highway 50, stands one of the oldest Catholic Churches in Ontario. St. Patrick’s Church (Wildfield) was founded in 1830 by Father Edward Gordon, and formally registered in 1833.
TORONTO – After two years in which due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students have been tossed between distance learning and face-to-face lessons, parents are wondering what the next school year will be like. Today, during a press conference, Education Minister Stephen Lecce anticipated some funding from his government for the year 2022-23. “Funds to support the recovery of educational programs never completed and for those of mental health of students – said the minister – all this to allow them to start a more normal school year than the latter two”.
TORONTO – Covid-19: hospitalizations are decreasing, both in ordinary and intensive care wards, but the number of victims remains high. 37, today, the deaths recorded in Ontario where 12,204 people have died since the start of the pandemic. →
