Covid, l’Ontario sfiora quota 1.300 casi, oltre 1.800 in Quebec

TORONTO – Covid-19: impennata impressionante, ieri, dei contagi in Ontario: quasi 1.300 i nuovi casi, con il più alto conteggio giornaliero nella provincia in più di sei mesi. On Thursday, health officials in Russia logged 30,209 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 9.9 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 87.0% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 1,181 Covid-related deaths for a total of 286,004 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

COVID-19 runs, 21 infections at St. James Catholic Global Learning Centre

TORONTO – The COVID-19 race in Ontario schools seems to be unstoppable: with 227 new cases in the last twenty-four hours, the total number of infections since the beginning of the school year has risen to 9,111. And among the new infections reported stand out the 21 identified in the St. James Catholic Global Learning Centre elementary school located in Mississauga.

Covid-19: Ontario touches on 1,300 cases in one day, more than 1,800 in Quebec

TORONTO – Covid-19: impressive surge in infections in Ontario, today: almost 1,300 new cases, with the highest daily count in the province in more than six months. The provincial health officials in fact recorded 1,290 infections, compared to 1,009 on Wednesday and 959 a week ago. Today’s total is therefore the highest recorded in Ontario since May 24, when 1,446 cases were registered.

Omicron emphasizes the urgency of vaccinations


From the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ontario has reported more than 626,000 confirmed positive cases, the majority of which were non-fatal. Unfortunately, 10,036 fatalities (as of December 8) were attributable to the virus.

Health authorities point out that following the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines, the incidence of severe infection and fatalities decreased when higher vaccination rates were achieved among the population.

On Wednesday, health officials in Germany logged 68,468 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 6.3 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 82.4% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 568 Covid-related deaths for a total of 104,929 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Election campaign with the Omicron risk and future uncertainty

TORONTO – There are five months to the provincial vote, but in Ontario the election campaign has already begun and continues unabated. The government led by Prime Minister Doug Ford in recent days has given way to the Scientific Technical Committee and Chief Medical Officer Kieran Moore and has started a chain ad campaign that have so much the flavor of electoral promises. 

Covid-19, Ontario now averages 1,000 cases per day

TORONTO – Ontario returns above the thousand new daily cases of Covid-19. Today 1,009 were registered, in addition to 8 deaths which bring the total number in the province, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 10,044. The moving average of daily infections, calculated over seven days, is now 1,007, up sharply from 821 last week – an average that hasn’t been seen for over six months. 38,502 tests processed in the last 24 hours: the positivity rate was 3.3 percent.
