York Catholic District School Board has had its internal difficulties. Recently, it came out at the wrong end of a Divisional Court decision regarding who can be a Catholic School trustee. More specifically, can non-Catholic students who apply for attendance at a Catholic school be student trustee. The basic issue is/was Board Policy 107 that says no they cannot

Freeland: “It will be a difficult time for everyone”

TORONTO – “It will be a difficult period for the Canadian economy”. Federal Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland (in the pic above, from her Facebook page), issued a warning: the next few months will not be good as the Bank of Canada’s recent rate hikes to tame (according to the bank itself) skyrocketing inflation will increase borrowing costs for businesses and consumers, which will send shockwaves throughout the economy, Freeland said, effectively echoing a concept that many economists have been arguing for months.  (more…)

Canada: inflation falls, but prices rise

TORONTO – The annual inflation rate falls, but that’s not good news as food prices continue to rise. This is what emerges from the latest report on the consumer price index by Statistics Canada, which shows that inflation fell slightly, in September, to 6.9 per cent (from 7% in August), but it is solely due to the drop in the price of gas, which fell by 7.4% in September.  (more…)
