Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of June 25, 2021 at 6:45pm EST.

On Friday, for the second day in a row, Russian health officials logged just over 20,000 new infections, numbers not seen in nearly five months. Total confirmed positive cases now surpass 5.4 million. Of the cumulative total, 91.1% are considered recovered. Since yesterday, Covid-related deaths increased by 601, close to the highest number of deaths reported in one day, 635, on December 24, 2020. Continue reading→

টরন্টো, জুন ২৫: গতকাল সাবেক মেরিভাল ইন্ডিয়ান রেসিডেন্সিয়াল স্কুলের নিকটবর্তী কবরস্থানের ভুগর্ভে প্রাথমিকভাবে ৭৫১টি চিহ্নহীন কবর উদঘাটনের সংবাদ দিয়েছেন কাউয়েসেস ফার্স্ট নেশন প্রধান ক্যাডমাস ডেলর্ম। যা ছিল সাসকাচুয়ান প্রদেশের রাজধানী রেজাইনা থেকে প্রায় ১৪০ কিলোমিটার পূর্বে কাউয়েসেস এলাকায় ১৮৯৯ থেকে ১৯৯৭ সাল পর্যন্ত পরিচালিত একটি স্কুল। এই স্কুলে দক্ষিণপূর্ব সাসকাচুয়ান ও দক্ষিণপশ্চিম ম্যানিটোবার ফার্স্ট নেশন পরিবারের সন্তানদের পাঠানো হত। কিন্তু সত্তর দশকে ফার্স্ট নেশন সেটির কবরস্থানের দায়িত্বভার ক্যাথলিক চার্চ থেকে বুঝে নেয়। Continue reading→

Cowessess Chief Cadmus Delorme announces 751 unmarked graves

Toronto, June 25: The Cowessess First Nation announced a preliminary finding yesterday of 751 unmarked graves at a cemetery near the former Marieval Indian Residential School. This school was operated from 1899 to 1997 in the area where Cowessess is now located, about 140 kilometres east of Regina. Children from First Nations in southeast Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba were sent to the school. But, the First Nation took over the school’s cemetery from the Catholic Church in the 1970s.
