Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – Protests continue follow one after the other at the intersection of Keele St. and 15th Sideroad. It is the entrance way to the Shrine at Mary Lake. The construction/expansion project to demolish the Marylake Augustinian Monastery and “build” the St. Rita at Mary Lake Long Term Care Home (LTC) is raising the ire of local residents in King Township.
TORONTO – I was born in the city of Manila, Philippines, and have been a city dweller ever since. When I immigrated to Toronto in the early 70s, a relative offered me lodging in the suburbs, but I respectfully declined. At the time, I was juggling two jobs. Both were in the city. And I was not about to add an exhausting commute to the picture. What figured into my decision was the knowledge that living in a city, whether in the Philippines or any country for that matter, has more advantages than disadvantages. Work opportunities are within reach. So are churches, supermarkets and schools. On a serious note, if there is a medical emergency, you can be transported to a downtown hospital within minutes.

TORONTO – As the housing emergency reaches unprecedented levels, with a total lack of affordable homes (both for sale and rent), it turns out that some of Canada’s major cities have large areas of vacant residential land.
