Citizenship for the suspected terrorist a month before the arrest and despite an Isis video

Marzio Pelù, August 28, 2024August 29, 2024

TORONTO – With one hand, the federal government “hits” those who come to Canada to work hard in the hope of building a better future for themselves and their family: it’s yesterday’s news (read it here) that the number of temporary foreign workers will be cut, “guilty” of being too many, according to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; on the other hand, the same government granted Canadian citizenship to a (suspected) terrorist, previously welcomed as a “refugee” and who did not come to work but, according to what emerged from an investigation by the RCMP (the Canadian Federal Police), to carry out attacks and massacres, particularly in Toronto where he was preparing to attack and where he was arrested, just in time, in a hotel in Richmond Hill (with his son who was also a “refugee”), a month after receiving Canadian citizenship.

The first details on the scandalous story of Ahmed Fouad Mostafa Eldidi, 62 years old, and his son Mostafa Eldidi, 26 years old – arrested on nine charges of terrorism, including criminal association to commit massacres on behalf of the Islamic State of ‘Iraq and the Levant – emerged today, and they came out only because the opposition forced all those involved in the affair to appear at the Parliamentary Commission for Public Safety and National Security. The first to testify was the Minister for Public Safety, Dominic LeBlanc, who confirmed that the 62-year-old Eldidi arrived in Canada on February 5, 2018, landing at the Toronto airport, and presented a request for “refugee ” in June of that year, which was accepted in February 2019. Then, he acquired citizenship in May 2024, after Canadian Security Intelligence “returned a favorable recommendation”. Incredibly – given the obsessive checks carried out, for example, on temporary foreign workers applying for permanent residence – nobody at the “Intelligence” or at the Immigration departments realized that the 62-year-old in question appeared in an ISIS video three years before arriving in Canada in which he literally tore a prisoner to pieces. He would have appeared, allegedly: but the mere doubt should be enough to order further investigations, before granting permanent residence and citizenship… citizenship instead granted to the 62-year-old. Fortunately, just over a month later, an RCMP investigation led to the discovery that he, Eldidi, together with his son of the same name (who arrived as a “refugee” in 2020: request accepted in 2022), was planning an attack in Toronto. The Canadian Federal Police then arrested both on July 28th.

“Do you really think your immigration system works if someone like this individual, an alleged ISIS terrorist, could have caused a massacre in Toronto?” conservative MP Melissa Lantsman asked the Minister Dominic LeBlanc. “Do you really think this is not a colossal failure of your government?” …the arduous sentence to temporary foreign workers.
