City of Brampton updates and extends its Brampton COVID-19 Mandatory Face Mask By-law

cnmng, June 17, 2021August 25, 2023

BRAMPTON, ON (June 17, 2021) – Following the advice of Peel Public Health, the City of Brampton has updated and extended its Brampton COVID-19 Mandatory Face Mask By-law until September 30, 2021.

Under the COVID-19 Mandatory Face Mask By-law, non-medical masks are required in all indoor public spaces in Brampton. Previously, scarves, bandanas, neck gaiters or neck warmers and masks with exhalation valves were acceptable forms of face coverings. These types of face coverings are no longer permitted under the amended by-law. Also under the amended by-law, masks may only be removed for consumption of food or drink if an individual is seated in a designated area for that purpose.

While vaccine coverage increases in the Region of Peel, the community continues to see high rates of community transmission of COVID-19 as well as the emergence of fast-spreading variants of concern. Residents must continue to do their part, physically distance, practise good hygiene and wear masks to help stop the spread.

To learn more about the proper use of non-medical masks and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), visit peelregion.ca/coronavirus/prevention/#masks

Additional information and resources for businesses and facility operators are available at brampton.ca/masks.
