UNESCO will launch Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Award for Creative Economy

Muhammad Ali Bukhari, CNMNG News

Toronto, March 23: In a video message sent on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence, UNESCO Director-General Audre Azoulay said, “On March 7, 50 years ago, Bangabandhu gave his historic speech. It has not only initiated the independence of Bangladesh but at the same time will serve as a strong voice on various issues including global respect and human rights. So we have preserved it as a historical document of human history.”

Azoulay said Bangladesh joined UNESCO in the year after its independence. Since then, Bangladesh has been working on issues like education, especially women’s education, cultural heritage etc.

Announcing the new award, Azoulay said young people who do new research work in economics will be considered eligible for this global award.

In fact, last year UNESCO announced the launch of the award at its 210th session of their executive board. Every two years, an award of $50,000 will be given to an individual or an organization in recognition of making the young generation enterprising through cultural and creative industrial initiatives. And when the 210th session of UNESCO executives was virtually held due to the Corona pandemic, all the executive members present at the launch of the award cheered. The first prize will be announced at the 41st General Assembly of UNESCO in September this year, marking the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development.
