Covid patients in ICU, + 28.4% in one month

Marzio Pelù, April 24, 2022August 25, 2023

TORONTO – 1,362 people are hospitalized in Ontario with or due to Covid-19, 212 of which in intensive care: today’s data could indicate a decrease in the number of Covid patients compared to the day before when the hospitalized were 1,684 (unchanged, instead, the number of people in the ICU), but it should be noted that not all hospitals report data over the weekend. What is certain is that ICU employment has increased by 7.6% in the past week and by 28.4% in the past month.

Six deaths were reported on Sunday, bringing the total in Ontario since the start of the pandemic to 12,734.

With just over 16,000 tests processed in the last 24 hours (and reserved for “at risk” categories), 4,098 new cases were detected today: the positivity rate is now 15.5%. Since the start of the pandemic, Ontario has recorded 1,242,158 laboratory confirmed cases of Covid-19: 1,194,904 healings. There are currently 34,520 active and known cases: on Friday they were 32,082.

In Quebec there are no signs of decreasing deaths: Friday – the last day for which data are available at the time of writing – 34 were registered, bringing the total day in the province, from the beginning of the pandemic, to 14,812.

2,410 infected people admitted to hospitals, an increase of 5 compared to the previous day: 265 patients were hospitalized and 260 were discharged. On the other hand, the number of people in intensive care remained stable at 88.

The number of health workers absent from work due to Covid-19 is always very high: on Friday they were 10,833.

Also on Friday, 2,499 new cases were reported on the basis of tests reserved only for “at risk” categories: the positivity rate is now at 13.2%. There are 27,723 active and known certified cases, probably from 28,517 in the previous 24 hours. But such data, as indeed for Ontario, are hardly indicative in light of the limitation of tests to certain categories.

The data relating to do-it-yourself tests performed at home and entered by citizens in the portal activated by the provincial government are more significant: out of 896 tests entered on Friday, 732 are positive. In total, since the portal was activated, out of 190,958 tests entered, 155. 733 are positive.
