Covid-19 in Ontario, hospitalizations still below 700

Marzio Pelù, March 7, 2022August 25, 2023

TORONTO – The number of hospitalizations for or with Covid-19 in Ontario remains below 700 for the second in a row and intensive care hospitalizations are left below 250: today there were 693 patients in hospital – in ordinary wards – with coronavirus, against the 684 on Sunday, the ICU went from 247 to 249. Small increases, while some are still due to the fact that hospitals do not update the data over the weekend. The downward trend in hospitalizations in Ontario is therefore confirmed, despite the slight increases.

In the last 24 hours, another 1,074 new cases of Covid-19 have been discovered, out of a total of 9,447 tests processed: few, reserved only for “at risk” categories. Ontario’s positivity rate rises to 11.8%: yesterday it was 10.2%.

Most of the cases reported today were identified in Toronto (187), Ottawa (69), Middlesex-London (58) and Windsor-Essex (58). Other areas with a number of cases related to Peel Region (57), York Region (55) and Hamilton (50). The cases active and not are now 16,699. On Monday, also 4 deaths were also recorded, bringing the total, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 12,574.

In Quebec, too, there was a slight increase in hospitalizations today: from 1,238 on Sunday to 1,254. The number of ICU patients also increased from 76 to 79. Another 6 deaths were recorded today, bringing the total from the start of the pandemic to 14,091. The active and known cases in the French-speaking province are now 12,983.

New sad milestone for Ontario’s other “neighbor”, Manitoba, where 10 deaths were recorded over the weekend, bringing the death toll since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,700. In the hospitals of the province there are now 192 Covid patients, of which 27 patients in intensive care. 7,571 active and known cases. The positivity rate is one of the highest in Canada: 14.7%.
