Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of February 17, 2022, at 4:45 pm EST.

On Thursday, health officials in Russia logged 180,622 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 14.8 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases 79.7% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 790 Covid-related deaths for a total of 343,173 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

St. Patrick’s Church, Brampton and Fr. Vito Marziliano

TORONTO – At the corner of Mayfield Rd and The Gore Rd in Brampton, west of Highway 50, stands one of the oldest Catholic Churches in Ontario. St. Patrick’s Church (Wildfield) was founded in 1830 by Father Edward Gordon, and formally registered in 1833.

Minister Lecce’s announcement: ahead with EQAO tests and online lessons

TORONTO – After two years in which due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students have been tossed between distance learning and face-to-face lessons, parents are wondering what the next school year will be like. Today, during a press conference, Education Minister Stephen Lecce anticipated some funding from his government for the year 2022-23. “Funds to support the recovery of educational programs never completed and for those of mental health of students – said the minister – all this to allow them to start a more normal school year than the latter two”.

The road to hostilities between Ukraine and Russia

TORONTO – This “crisis” has been brewing for some time. All countries are sizing up what to do and how to react, as Russia keeps “pushing the envelope”. Canada will not really have much choice if actions will stem from obligations to other NATO Allies. Ukraine is not one of them.
