Ontario, active cases are close to 5 thousand

Marzio Pelù, November 15, 2021August 25, 2023

TORONTO – A hundred fewer cases. Today’s figure of infections in Ontario reassures a little: 552 new infections from Covid-19, down from the disturbing 666 on Sunday but still up from 480 a week ago. In any case, today’s total represents the highest number of cases since last September 27 when 613 new infections were reported. Not only that: the active cases are close to 5 thousand.

The seven-day moving average of new cases in Ontario is now 573 (last Monday it was 476), while – with 21,475 tests processed in the past 24 hours – the positivity rate is 2.2% (Sunday was 2.7%). . The public health units with the highest number of new cases include Toronto (85), Peel Region (51), York Region (49), Simcoe-Muskoka (44), and Ottawa (37).

Of today’s new cases, 286 involved unvaccinated people, 23 partially vaccinated, 212 fully immunized and 31 with an unknown vaccination status. However, if it is true that the number of fully vaccinated people who contract the virus seems to be increasing, it is also true that the people who end up in the intensive care units of Ontario continue to be predominantly those who are not vaccinated: the percentages speak for themselves. 14% of patients admitted to intensive care are fully vaccinated while 86% are not vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status.

Lastly, another 3 deaths were confirmed today, bringing the total deaths, since the beginning of the pandemic, in Ontario to 9,937. The active (known) cases are approaching – we said – at an altitude of 5 thousand: today they were 4,985.

Quebec continues to go hand in hand with Ontario. today it recorded 509 infections (compared to 634 on Sunday) out of a total of 20,903 tests carried out: of the new cases, 326 concern unvaccinated people, 12 with a dose of and 171 fully vaccinated. 5,784 active cases in the province.

Another person has died from the virus and there are now 11,546 deaths attributed to Covid-19 in Quebec since March 2020.

After declining for most of last month, hospital admissions in Quebec have increased to 21 people. hospitalized versus eight discharged: patients are now 202, 42 of them in intensive care (number unchanged). Of the newly hospitalized, 12 are unvaccinated, 1 received a dose, and 8 are fully vaccinated. 42 people are in intensive care units.

At the federal level, there are 24,676 active cases across Canada. Since the start of the pandemic, 1,749,452 infections have been recorded. The virus killed 29,341 people (data collected at 12am today).
