Ontario, intensive care below four hundred. Rapid tests in Quebec: out of 80 thousand, 62,000 are positive

Marzio Pelù, February 14, 2022August 25, 2023

TORONTO – The number of patients with Covid-19 in intensive care in Ontario drops below four hundred for the first time in 2022: today, in fact, the number of people in ICU was 394. And the total number of people in the hospital still falls: 1,369 today, compared to 1,540 on Sunday.

Other comforting news: after the 22 deaths recorded in Ontario on Sunday, today there were “only” 8 that bring the total of victims in Ontario, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 12,101 (according to the recalculation made daily).

The province also registered 1,765 new cases: as we always remember, the number is far from reality due to the limitation of access to tests only to “at risk” categories. In fact, only 9,962 tests were processed in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate – calculated by comparing the number of swabs analyzed to that of the infections detected – is however significant: 13%.

Of today’s cases, 335 were detected in Toronto, 134 in the Peel region, 117 in the York region, 80 in the Durham region and 44 in the Halton region, 139 in Ottawa. All other areas reported fewer than 100 new cases. 37 cases concern residents of long-term care homes and 16 concern the staff of the same: there are still 184 long-term structures where an outbreak is still active.

2,619 healings today, bringing the total of patients healed in Ontario, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 1,036,214. On the other hand, there were 1,074,485 cases confirmed in the laboratory: 26,170 those still active (and known).

Intensive care is also freer in Quebec, where today there was a decline in patients treated in the ICU: now there are 136, four fewer than yesterday. On the other hand, the number of beds occupied in the ordinary wards increased slightly (+14) and are now 2,095.

Unfortunately, the number of deaths is still high: today another 17, bringing the total of victims in Quebec, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 13,710.

1,431 the new cases – remembering what has been said for Ontario regarding the scarcity of tests carried out. The real data is what emerges from the self-declarations made by citizens through the portal that the Quebec Government has activated to try to continue to monitor the progress of the pandemic in some way: practically everyone can enter on the website the result of their own test performed at home. Well, out of 80,807 quick tests entered so far by Quebec citizens, more than 62,000 are positive. The “official” data, i.e. those based only on molecular tests which are now reserved only for the “at risk” categories, instead speak of 27,713 active cases throughout the province. An interesting gap about the reliability of the “official” data provided so far.
