Ontario, slight decline in hospitalizations but in Quebec inpatients exceed two thousand

Marzio Pelù, April 13, 2022August 25, 2023

TORONTO – Slight decline in Covid hospitalizations in Ontario: after the impressive surge of the previous 24 hours, today there were 1,332 hospitalized against 1,366 on Tuesday. 182 inpatients in intensive care: yesterday they were 190.

Another 13 deaths have been recorded, bringing the total in Ontario, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 12,583.

Infections: 3,833 new cases today, on the basis of 23,618 tests reserved, however, only for “at risk” categories. The positivity rate drops from 18.7 to 17.5%. Of yesterday’s cases in the Greater Toronto Area, 892 were detected in Toronto, 199 in the York region, 193 in the Durham region, 166 in the Peel region and 146 in the Halton region. 234 new cases were also reported in Simcoe Muskoka and 222 in Hamilton. All other areas reported fewer than 200 new cases. 112 cases involving residents (and 26) in long-term care facilities: nursing homes with active outbreaks are now 140 (-1). The active and known cases, official, are now 32,198 (Tuesday they were 31,717).

Another 3,339 people have recovered: the total since the beginning is 1,159,671 out of 1,204,452 cases confirmed in the laboratory.

Hospitalizations in Quebec exceeded two thousand today, with 2,060 Covid patients present in hospitals, 83 of whom in intensive care (the day before yesterday there were 67). Another 13 deaths, with the total since the beginning of the pandemic rising to 14,592.

The positive cases recorded today amounted to 3,515, based on 18,051 tests (reserved for the “at risk” categories): the positivity rate is now 16.3%. The active and known cases, officially, are now 31,677 with a clear increase compared to the 30,172 of 24 hours before, even if these figures represent, as mentioned several times, only the tip of the iceberg. This is demonstrated once again by the data of the quick do-it-yourself tests carried out at home and entered by citizens in the government portal activated for monitoring: today, out of 1,379 tests those entered positive were 1,164 and since the portal was activated on 172,987 tests those entered positive resulted in 140,449.
