Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of January 6, 2022, at 4:35 pm EST.

On Thursday, health officials in the UK logged 179,756 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 14 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 75.8% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 231 Covid-related deaths for a total of 149,515 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Experts: “Schools must be reopened safely”

TORONTO – The Canadian school system looks like a boat at the mercy of the waves. Since the beginning of the pandemic what has been missing is a minimum of stability, a coherent line of the Ministry of Education and the commitment to make all schools safe places for children who are paying dearly for the protracted pandemic that since March 2020 has come to count four waves.

Pandemic stirs changes in international migration

Usually, most people leave their native country for better opportunities. Some migrants leave for work, for study, or to join family. In fact, several factors may determine population movements which include poverty, political unrest, violence, natural disasters or conflict. According to the United Nation’s latest estimates on international migration (mid-2020), nearly 281 million (M) migrants live outside the country of their birth.

Covid-19 in Ontario, another 20 deaths and hospitalization boom

Daily update of Ontario’s Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign

With the largest vaccination campaign underway, the province has administered more than 27.9 million doses into the arms of Ontarians. According to data last updated on January 6, numbers released by the Ministry of Health show health officials administered 195,005 vaccine doses on Wednesday, up from 180,013 doses the day prior.
