Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of January 17, 2022, at 4:30 pm EST.

On Monday, health officials in Germany logged 53,916 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 8.0 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 87.0% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 143 Covid-related deaths for a total of 116,411 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Ontario, hospitalizations stabilize. Another 54 dead in Quebec

TORONTO – Another 23 died today in Ontario from Covid-19, while hospital admissions and transfers to intensive care seemed to give the first signs of stabilization: the Ministry of Health has in fact announced that the people present in the hospital are 3,887, of which 578 in intensive care. The employment level of today is therefore relatively similar to that of Sunday, also in light of the fact that some hospitals do not report employment related to Covid-19 on weekends (and Saturday, last day of reporting before the new week, they were 3,957 against 3,595 of Monday without the total number of the province). Holding trustees accountable to the public they serve

The moral and ethical debate pertaining to trustee accountability appears to be an ever-present issue. The job is not an easy one. They are publicly elected officials with a job to represent the interests of their constituents. For Catholic school board trustees in Ontario, they are accountable to those they serve, while at the same time, advocating for the protection, preservation and promotion of the Catholic education system.

Parents have free will to decide where their children will be educated. While several factors may influence that choice, those who chose to enrol their children in the Catholic School System, do so with purpose. (more…)

Bandiera del Pride, ad Halton si vota di nuovo

TORONTO – I fiduciari scolastici si riuniranno per votare di nuovo sull’opportunità di sventolare la bandiera del Pride nelle scuole cattoliche di Halton questo giugno. La questione sarà nuovamente discussa (18 gennaio) alla riunione dell’Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB). In tutte le scuole cattoliche dell’Ontario i dibattiti sulla possibilità di issare fuori dagli edifici la bandiera arcobaleno sono stati controversi.
