Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of January 19, 2022, at 7:45 pm EST.

On Wednesday, health officials in Portugal logged 52,549 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 2.0 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 81.2% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 12 Covid-related deaths for a total of 19,412 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

School, today the return in presence

TORONTO – Students from the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) and the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) returned to class today. After taking online classes for two weeks, Monday was supposed to be the day of the big comeback but a massive winter storm forced them to stay home for another two days. The reopening of schools took place – said the TDSB – following the “significant progress” that the city has made in clearing the main roads and secondary roads.

Covid-19: 60 deaths in Ontario, 88 in Quebec

TORONTO – Another 60 deaths in one day: 10,726 the total number of victims from Covid-19 in Ontario. That recorded today is the highest number of daily numbers in nearly a year: the last time daily deaths reached this level was February 4, 2021, when 88 deaths were reported. (more…)

Daily update of Ontario’s Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign

With the largest vaccination campaign underway, the province has administered more than 29.6 million doses into the arms of Ontarians. According to data last updated on January 19, numbers released by the Ministry of Health show health officials administered 103,143 vaccine doses on Tuesday, up from 39,418 doses the day prior.
