Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – The success of the PSAC strike, which saw more than 120,000 federal civil servants of the Public Service Alliance of Canada mobilize for days until practically all the requests made to the federal government were granted, could have a “domino effect”. TORONTO – May I, the start of Mental health month. Last week – it seems like yesterday – the minister for Education held a “back to basics” and “meritocracy” press conference to tout the Ontario government’s “new priorities”. The “old ones” that overlooked accountability, performance and teaching as a vocation have a litany of verifiable failures.
TORONTO – In molti Paesi del mondo, ieri – Primo Maggio – era la Festa dei Lavoratori. Non in Canada, dove tale ricorrenza cade il primo lunedì di settembre (Labour Day). Ma, ironia della sorte, proprio ieri è stato raggiunto l’accordo fra la Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) – i cui oltre 120mila lavoratori erano in sciopero dallo scorso 19 aprile – ed il Treasury Board. Restano però in sciopero i 35.000 dipendenti della Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) che, a differenza degli altri dipendenti pubblici federali, ancora non hanno raggiunto un’intesa con il governo.
TORONTO – Un nome dopo l’altro, i 25 criminali più ricercati del Canada sono stati annunciati ieri dal chief della Toronto Police Myron Demkiw durante una conferenza stampa in Yonge Dundas Square. Dodici dei 25 latitanti presenti in quest’ultimo elenco (nella foto sopra: cliccare per ingrandirla) avevano legami con Toronto mentre uno – l’italocanadese Daniel Tomassetti – è ricercato dalla polizia di Hamilton per omicidio.
TORONTO – Crisi abitativa e caos traffico sono stati i due temi dominanti ieri in questa nuova settimana di campagna elettorale per la carica di sindaco a Toronto. Ad aprire le danze è stata Ana Bailao che durante una conferenza stampa ha presentato il suo piano per affrontare l’emergenza abitativa in città.
TORONTO – “Mia figlia è morta il 13 aprile scorso: aveva una rara condizione cardiaca congenita, è stata sottoposta ad uno screening per trapianto di cuore e polmone ma era troppo debole e non è sopravvissuta: così, ha donato il suo corpo all’ospedale in modo che possa essere studiato per saperne di più sulla sua rara condizione e, in questo modo, aiutare gli altri a vivere più a lungo, se possibile”. A raccontare la storia è Divina, madre di Lisa-Anne.
TORONTO – “My daughter died on April 13: she had a rare congenital heart condition, she underwent a heart and lung transplant screening but she was too weak and did not survive: so, she donated her body to the hospital so that it can be studied to learn more about his rare condition and, in this way, help others live longer if possible”. Divina, mother of Lisa-Anne, tell us the story of her daughter.
